On March 27, 2015 a benefit auction was organized by the Tanglin Trust community to raise funds for the long term goals of The Himalayan Women’s Health Project. Dr Quek Swee Chong, the team leader gynecologist, once again shared the goals and challenges of the project in a compelling presentation prior to the bidding. Inspired by the opportunity to bid for donated items that would generate funds for extremely beneficial diagnostic and treatment equipment, the patrons responded with overwhelming generosity. At the end of the evening, over S$55,000 was raised which will enable Dr Quek and his team to purchase the following enormously beneficial equipment that will enhance his capabilities to bring life saving women’s health care screenings and treatments to the women of Ladakh.
- “Gynocular” portable colposcope: 3
- Smart phone cameras for Gynocular units: 2
- Portable ultrasound machine: 1
- Cold Coagulator treatment unit: 1
- Laptop computers 2
- 5 seat van for mobile health camps: 1
- Surgical instruments & medications
A sincere and heartfelt expression of admiration and gratitude must be extended to all those who worked tirelessly to make the latest Tanglin Trust School fund raising effort such an enormous success. Quite literally, the equipment that the generosity of the donors and the efforts of the organizers will make possible will save the lives of countless women in Ladakh who’s illnesses or injuries will be able to be diagnosed and treated by the physicians utilizing this splendid equipment.
