The Lamdon Clinic

Located on the campus of Lamdon School in Leh, Ladakh, The Lamdon Clinic is the culmination of eight years of progress that has been made by the dedicated volunteer doctors and staff of The Himalayan Health Project towards the ultimate goal of assuring world class medical health care to every resident of Ladakh. From our first efforts of bring dental teams from Singapore, the USA and New Zealand to Ladakh for short term, but enormously productive camps that we set up in some of the most remote locations in the world, our clinic now has fully functional, world class dental, vision and woman’s health care capabilities.

Clinic---Nov.-8

Dedicated to the memory and spirit of Mr Roy Kite, the Lamdon Clinic is now “Basecamp” for the far reaching and ambitious goals of The Himalayan Health Project. We can now take screening teams of physicians to every isolated village location in this spectacular Himalayan region and provide examination, education and transportation back to our main clinic complex for any man, woman or child that requires medical treatments that we can provide. Those suffering with conditions that require surgical repair or treatments beyond our capabilities will be evacuated to New Delhi or Hyderabad where we have alliances with hospitals that can provide world class treatments or rehabilitative care for almost any condition.

Dental Clinic

We now have full radiology capability in addition to all the basic dental treatment and repair facilities. Our mandate of "Extraction as a last resort" is supported by full endodontic equipment and supplies. There are virtually no logistical limitations to the treatment we can bring to bear for the welfare of our patients.

Vision Clinic

image003We are constructing a major new addition to the clinic complex in order to create one of the most well equipped vision health care facilities in North India. Our alliance with the prestigious LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad will enable us to host regular teams of their skilled surgeons and ophthalmologists to complement our local staff of optometry technicians that were sent to LVPEI for extensive training. Construction of the new vision clinic is scheduled for completion in July, 2015 when we will install all of our extensive inventory of world class quality diagnostic & treatment equipment into the new facility.

To complement our strategy of sending screening teams of vision, dental and women's health care specialists out to every remote village in Ladakh for education and diagnostic identification of maladies that can be treated successfully back at the main clinic complex, we have three vehicles for physician and patient transport.

The Evolution of The Lamdon Clinic

April 25, 2012

For the first several years of The Himalayan Health Project’s efforts to bring urgently needed basic medical care to the people of Ladakh, we took large teams of dentists, ophthalmologists and women’s health care specialists to some of the most remote locations in the Himalayas. These first medical expeditions were extremely beneficial, but not sustainable…read more

Vision Testimonial

All those associated with The Himalayan Vision Project are grateful for the tireless and heroic efforts of the teams of international vision health care physicians and optometrists who have brought vastly improved quality of life to countless men, women and children of Ladakh over the past 7 years.

Our objectives and capabilities have taken a quantum leap forward by virtue of an alliance formed with the prestigious LV Prasad Eye Institute located in Hyderabad. This invaluable collaboration was made possible by the friendship and shared ideals of one of the world's most renowned and admired cornea and stem cell specialists, Dr Virender Sangwan. Dr Sangwan came to the aid of a Ladakhi police officer who was suffering from an extremely serious eye condition and through the successful treatment of that very fortunate individual has become a friend and inspiration to us all.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama
blessing the Lamdon Clinic

The Lamdon Clinic now serves as "Basecamp" for our ambitious goal of bringing world class dental, vision and women's health care to the people of Ladakh. Not only will we continue to offer cost free treatments for all who come to our doors, but we will now also be sending mobile screening teams of medical professionals to drive or hike to the remotest villages and settlements in the Indus, Nubra and Zanskar Valley regions of Ladakh to educate, examine and if necessary transport patients who need treatment and rehabilitation back to our main clinic complex in Leh.

We draw our guidance from the compassionate inspiration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama who advocates doing all that is possible for those needlessly suffering or deprived of their basic human right of adequate medical care regardless of their religious loyalties, gender, citizenship or financial means.

We were greatly honored when His Holiness the Dalai Lama came to our clinic in 2012 and blessed it's capabilities and aspirations.

Dental Testimonial

dr-nordstrom

Julley everyone!  I'm Dr Marie Nordstrom, the resident dentist at the Himalayan Dental Project Clinic in Leh, Ladakh.  Two years ago I was working at a humanitarian dental clinic in Cambodia. When it was time to move on I was browsing around on the internet searching for another inspirational opportunity where I could volunteer my dental abilities and I came across the Himalayan Dental Project. I sent off an email expressing my interest to volunteer and within a few hours I had a reply from the project coordinator Bill Kite inviting me to join the the clinic team in Ladakh. After his first email I instinctively had a feeling that this would turn into something really significant and decided to book my flight to India and then up to Ladakh.  A short time later I found myself at more than 3,500m above sea level in the Himalayas with spectacular mountain views
